Can you escape your past? Pegeen has tried to bury herself in a life of loneliness, allowing very few persons into it for fear they would find out about what happened to her and be repulsed. Alaric Fitzhugh wants to see the person the young lady is hdding behind her masks and ultimately falls in love with her. Her past comes back and knocks her for a loop. Whenever Pegeen is reported as being dead and the child she gave birth to is delivered to him, Alaric refuses to accept this as being a possibility. Fighting to discover what happened to his Pegeen, he uncovers a person just about ready to get away with murder by gaining immunity from prosecution by Congress. Can Alaric stop this from happening?
